Today, the Supreme Court of Pakistan will hear a case related to the postponement of elections in Punjab and KP. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umer Ata Bandial, will take up the matter in response to both the suo motu and PTI's petition challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan's order. The Pakistan Democratic Movement expressed dissatisfaction with the bench, while the counsel representing the PDM will decide whether to boycott the proceedings of the court. The court had already declined to constitute a full court bench. The hearing has summoned the Secretary of Finance and Secretary of Defence, and the ruling coalition has objected to a three-member Supreme Court bench, hoping for a detailed verdict on the question of delay in elections or the establishment of a full court bench. The PTI is a plaintiff in the case while the state and Election Commission are among the defendants. The ECP has determined October 8 for holding elections to the two provincial assemblies, while PTI has been pressing for elections within 90 days of the dissolution of assemblies.
